TRAVELLING INFORMATION

San Sebastian is easy to reach from any place in the world. There are many options for how to get here, so you can choose the most convenient route for you, either by plane, train, bus or car:

How to get here by plane

San Sebastián has three airports within just over 100 km of the city:

Loiu Airport (BIO): Situated in Loiu near Bilbao (105 km from San Sebástián), this international airport connects with multiple European cities. It will take 1 hour and 15 minute to get to the city either by bus or by car. You can get to San Sebastián by a comfortable shuttle bus running every hour (or even every 30 mins in high season) straight from the airport to the city for  17 € one way. Buses run from and to the airport. The timetable and online tickets are available at http://www.pesa.net/pesa/en/horarios (connection: Aeropuerto Bilbao ⇆ Donostia-San Sebastián). You can also get your bus ticket at the airport (either from the bus driver if you pay in cash and notes smaller than 50 € or from the ticket machine if you pay by card). In high season it is convenient to buy your ticket online in advance. Once you get off your plane, just head to the exit and you will find the bus stop right outside the exit. The last bus leaves at 11:45pm. If you prefer to get from the airport to the city center by taxi, it will cost you around 140 €.

San Sebastián Airport (EAS): Situated in Fuenterrabia/Hondarribia, this airport is about a 20-minute drive from San Sebastián. This small domestic airport connects the city to Madrid and Barcelona, with flights operated mainly by Iberia Airlines. A regular city bus (1.70 €) connects the airport and the city (timetable is available at http://www.lurraldebus.eus; bus E21 is the direct bus from the airport to the city center).  A taxi from the airport to the city center costs around 40 €.

Biarritz Airport (BIQ): This small international airport situated in Biarritz (France) is about a 40-minute drive from San Sebastián and on the French side of the Basque Country. Air France as well as some low-cost airlines, such as Ryanair, fly to this airport. Bus connections are available from this airport to San Sebastián (see http://www.alsa.es) but please note that connections are not as frequent as with Bilbao Airport. The taxi will cost you 40 €.

How to get here by train

The train station is located in the city centre (“Estación del Norte”). The company RENFE (http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/index.html) rail service offers comfortable long-distance connections to numerous Spanish cities including Madrid and Barcelona, and to international destinations such as Paris and Lisbon.

How to get here by bus

The San Sebastián bus station has lines to multiple cities in Spain and abroad. The main company traveling here is ALSA and PESA.

How to get here by car

San Sebastian is connected to other parts of Spain by the N-1 (Madrid-Irun highway), AP-8 (Bilbao-Irun highway), and A-15 (Pamplona-San Sebastián highway).

Please keep in mind that the Basque name of the city, “Donostia”, is often used instead of "San Sebastián" on destination panels throughout the Basque Country.
